Magazine Puts Huntsville at Top of List

April 23, 2007

NewsChannel 19's Amber Stuart reports:

Huntsville is showing it's growing power once again. The city is ranked the number one small city of the future in the United States by Foreign Direct Investment Magazine. That's because of it's high scores in development and quality of life.

Dust flies just off Memorial Parkway, at a shopping center that is being torn to the ground at the old Heart of Huntsville Mall. Across the city, dirt flies because buildings are rising from the ground at Bridge Street Towne Center. It's all a sign of the times.

"We are now discovered for sure," said Scott McLain, a local real estate developer. "You've seen all these magazines articles that say great things about Huntsville. There are lots of them, there are like 35 of them, and people are now reading them."

The development in Huntsville is so hot, it's driving people from other cities to go shopping in the Rocket City.

"It gives you a lot more choices and you know there's a lot more restaurants coming and we eat out a lot," said Zena Wheeler of Athens.

Developer Scott McLain expects to see more development coming to the area and for Huntsville to be in more magazines.

"We've been telling Huntsville's story and the world has started to listen," said McLain.

The dust at Bridge Street will start to settle around the fall.

We should know what's moving into the old Heart of Huntsville Mall by the first of May.
